Highland Hospital Diabetes Center

The Highlands Hospital Diabetes Center offers a comprehensive approach to diabetes education, management, and support. The center is staffed by a full-time diabetes educator who focuses exclusively on teaching and caring for people with diabetes. Many diabetes-related services are available through the center.

Diabetes Self-Management Education

In group classes, people with diabetes can receive a complete diabetes overview that covers topics such as: blood glucose monitoring, nutrition counseling, meal planning, exercise instruction and more.

One-to-One Education

This program can meet an individual's specific needs and may include discussion on nutrition counseling, blood glucose monitoring, insulin instruction, and more.

Diabetes Support Group

The Diabetes Center offers a free monthly program for people with diabetes and their families. The group meetings offer support for patients and an opportunity to interact with others who have diabetes. The support group meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. at Highlands Hospital.

Diabetes Resources

At the Diabetes Center, people with diabetes can access a variety of educational resources. The center provides free computer access for its patients to download their blood glucose meter readings, which can be printed and taken to doctor visits or appointments with diabetes educators. Patients may also search the Internet for diabetes-related websites and access a health care library filled with the latest diabetes resources.
