Little-Known Facts About The Liberty Bell

In the name of freedom you should not visit the state of Pennsylvania without visiting the Liberty Bell. The Liberty Bell has long been a famous icon located in the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 1751 the Pennsylvania Assembly issued an order for the bell. The cost of the bell including insurance and shipping was 150 Pounds 13 shillings 8 pence and arrived via boat.

The bell which is 12 feet wide and weighs over two thousand pounds would cost much much more to produce in today’s economy. Inscribed at the top was part of a Biblical verse from Leviticus, “Proclaim Liberty throughout all the Land unto all the Inhabitants thereof." The Liberty Bell Center opened in fall of 2003 and cost over twelve million dollars.

The new Liberty Bell Center is located on Market Street in Philadelphia which is convenient to nearby museums, dining, shopping and lodging. It is open year round from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. operating with extended hours in the summer. It is in the Old City district of Philadelphia, along with seeing the Liberty Bell there are historic documents explaining how the Liberty Bell is and has been the internationally known symbol of freedom.
